Monster Hunter Rise is out now! That means it’s time to start getting prepared for your journey. There’s a huge number of deadly beasts you must hunt in order to protect Kamura Village from rampage events and to craft stronger gear from their pelts, claws, shells, and other items.
That’s where we come in. We prepared a handy list with every confirmed Monster Hunter Rise monster and will keep it updated with any brand new beasts we find on release. As of now, there are over 50 confirmed monsters, including some fan favourites such as Rathalos.

Monster Hunter rise monster list There are a total of 34 large monsters so far in Monster Hunter Rise, with free updates bringing new monsters every month or so. We’ve had confirmation that Chameleos is coming to the game in the next few weeks, bringing the total to 35.
This is not counting the Apex variants of each monster, which are a little like the Tempered monsters in Monster Hunter World in that they’re stronger forms of the regular monsters.
To prepare you for the hunt, we’ll be listing the first times you’ll encounter the monsters in the game in the Village Quests, or the Gathering Hub quests if they don’t ever appear in Village Quests. We’ll also provide a brief description of the monsters to give you an idea of what to expect.

Monster Hunter Rise monsters Finally, here are some descriptions of the monsters you’ll face in the game, and things to watch out for.
Great Izuchi A bird wyvern with a scythe-like tail. It tends to travel in a pack with a bunch of smaller Izuchi. This monster isn’t too difficult, but be wary when it leaps back to join its flock.
Arzuros A bear wyvern that has sharp claws. This beast likes to charge at its opponents and slash with its claws. Be careful when attacking its rear as it can bump you with its butt.
Great Baggi Like Great Izuchi, the Great Baggi travels around with its mates. It’s slightly more dangerous, in that it can spit on prey with a tranquilising liquid, but it’s otherwise not too dangerous.
Lagombi The Lagombi has a thick layer of fat and a gloriously warm pelt that helps it survive in cold climates.
Aknosom A huge bird wyvern that stands on one leg. Its neck ruffles make it look like a terrifying umbrella. This fire-breathing crane has some elegant moves with some obvious tell-tale signs that it’s about to attack.
Tetranadon The Tetranadon is a huge round monster with a face like a platypus. It swallows everything it comes in contact with, gravel and all. It’s sitting press attack is extremely powerful.
Kulu-Ya-Ku Returning from Monster Hunter World, this bird wyvern pecks with its beak and scratches the ground. It’s a bit skittish compared to other monsters, but as soon as it picks up a rock or pot, it becomes a huge threat.
Barroth A hulking beast with a hard head. It shakes mud off its back to inflict Waterblight on its prey. If you hear what sounds like steam venting, it’s about to charge at you, which hurts a lot.
Great Wroggi Wroggi travel in packs with the most toxic member leading the group. Back off if its poison sac expands, as that means it’s about to release a poisonous mist.
Royal Ludroth Another monster that is accompanied by smaller variants. The Royal Ludroth has a spongey mane that absorbs water. It will spew disgusting mucous onto its prey. This tends to roll around a lot as well.
Khezu This creepy wyvern is the stuff nightmares are made of. It has a horrific, elastic neck which it stretches while clinging to walls. Don’t be in its blast range when it emits an electric barrier, or you’ll become paralysed and open to attacks.
Bishaten This curious monster enjoys playing tricks on people and tossing fruit using its bizarre tail. Some of the fruit can poison you, so be sure to stock up on Antidotes before hunting this monkey-beast.
Somnacanth This aquatic monster releases a sleeping powder from its neck to knock its prey out. If it picks up a fruit, it will crack it open to stun those nearby for a short time, so don’t get too close.
Barioth Barioth rules the frozen tundra with its incredibly sharp teeth and spiked scales. It’s very fast, so be sure to play defensively when it charges.
Rathian The fire-breathing dragon Rathian also has a poison-secreting tail. She is known as the Queen of the Land. Unlike previous games, chopping off the tail does not get rid of the poison effect when you’re hit by her tail.
Tobi-Kadachi It’s not exactly the cutest flying squirrel out there, but this beast can deliver quite the jolt if you’re hit by its attacks too much. When it takes to the skies, focus on dodging.
Volvidon The Volvidon looks like a huge armadillo with a thick shell. It has an incredibly long tongue that it uses to capture its prey. If it shakes, get out of the way as those hit by its gas are unable to consume healing items.
Basarios A flying wyvern with a rocky appearance. Basarios mimics its surroundings before taking down oblivious prey. It’s a tough monster with hard armour, so blunt weapons are best here.
Pukei-Pukei This somewhat cute monster has a toxic secret in its tail. Chopping it off will hinder its ability to spew poison at you. When it eats plants, be sure to attack its face to break its gullet as its attacks are more powerful when it’s full of food.

Nargacuga An extremely fast, cunning predator, Nargacuga will run circles around you with ease. It likes to attack with its thorned tail, with these attacks becoming more aggressive as its eyes glow red.
Zinogre During battle, Zinogre gathers Thunderbugs to boost its attack and become supercharged. It can also fire off thunder bolts and other nasty electrical attacks to leave prey vulnerable to its big claws.
Anjanath When this tyrannosaurus rex sets its mind on hunting prey, it won’t stop. Anjanath breathes fire when its snout is exposed. Be sure to break it when it’s prone on the ground, and chop off its tail to reduce its range.
Mizutsune Mizutsune is a beautiful creature, but don’t let this fool you! The peculiar bubbles it produces can hurt you and inflict Bubbleblight. It can also spit concentrated jet streams that can be deadly.
Rathalos Rathalos has poisonous claws and fiery breath. It’s known for descending upon hunters from the sky. It has some new fire-breathing attacks this time around, so don’t be too close to it while it’s flying.
Almudron This monster mostly keeps to itself, however, it recently started attacking hunters unprovoked. It can pick up huge mounds of mud with its tail that it uses as a mace.
Goss Harag A huge yeti-like creature, the Goss Harag roams snowy plains in search of prey. It can breathe ice on its claws to make icy blades that dish out a huge amount of damage.
Tigrex The savage Tigrex can damage would-be hunters with its roar, and charges with great ferocity. Play defensively by dodging its attacks until it tires itself out, and then go in for the kill.
Diablos Diablos is known for crushing hunters underneath its huge, powerful feet. It also hurtles underground at unsuspecting prey at break
Jyuratodus This big fish can be incredibly dangerous while underwater, so be sure to keep an eye on where it goes and dodge if it gets too close. While it’s on land, concentrate on attacking its legs.
Rakna-Kadaki This monster slows hunters with its webs before shooting a burning gas at them.
Rajang This gorilla-esque monster is said to turn golden when enraged by a foe. Its savage attacks are more powerful when it’s glowing yellow, and it can fire a huge blast of energy from its maw. Proceed to hunt this beast with caution.
Wind Serpent Ibushi One of the two new Elder Dragons. It uses its powers over wind to fling rocks and blast away would-be hunters.
Thunder Serpent Narwa The second of the two new Elder Dragons. This dragon has dominion over thunder. It can raise the ground to create platforms and it emits giant rings that expand, causing huge damage.
Free update monsters 2.0 CHAMELEOS This is a returning monster from previous Monster Hunter games, though this is the first time we’re seeing it in the new ‘World’ style of games. Chameleos is an Elder Dragon that can turn invisible, spew poison, and even pinch items with its tongue.
TEOSTRA This Elder Dragon debuted in Monster Hunter World, it’s covered in flames and spits blazing fire. Its weakest spot is the head, but its wings and tail are severable as well.
KUSHALA DAORA Another Elder Dragon from Monster Hunter World, this beast shields itself with fierce winds, preventing anyone from approaching it.
APEX RATHALOS An even fiercer version of the already terrifying Rathalos, every breath is a jet of flames. Its roar is so ferocious it drives nearby monsters into a frenzy.
APEX DIABLOS Diablos is made even scarier in this powered-up version, which can trigger a devastating move, launching into an unstoppable charge that brings down everything in its path.
FREE UPDATE MONSTERS 3.0 CRIMSON GLOW VALSTRAX This variant of Valstrax is new to Monster Hunter Rise, turning its wings a deep, glowing red. It’s far more aggressive, fiercely territorial, and will attack anything in sight.
APEX ZINOGRE This variant is much more yellow than regular Zinogre, and features a powerful electric front flip attack. During rampage quests Apex Zinogre will target installations first, so be prepared.
MONSTER HUNTER RISE SUNBREAK Malzeno Announced during a Nintendo Direct and then named during Tokyo Game Show, Malzeno is the flagship monster of upcoming ‘major expansion’ DLC, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. With his location featuring a ruined castle and bathed in red light, this terrifying monster seemingly pulls inspiration from vampires and their mythology.
