OMEGA’s Speedmaster Moonwatch remains one of the most iconic watches in history. The first watch ever worn by astronauts on the moon has been a staple of men’s watch collections for decades, and in 2021 it finally gets a subtle modern makeover. OMEGA has updated this classic timepiece with Master Chronometer certification for the first time in the model’s history.

“When updating a sacred timepiece like the Speedmaster Moonwatch, every detail must be true to its original spirit,” said OMEGA’s president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann. “This chronograph is recognized the world over, so we’ve approached its design with the most sincere respect while taking its movement to the next level.”

Visually the watch is fairly similar to the original, featuring an asymmetrical case, step dial, and double bevel caseback. The standard version of the Speedmaster comes in a stainless steel case with the option of a steel bracelet or fabric straps. There’s also the choice of sapphire or hesalite glass and two premium options available in 18K Sedna red gold or 18K Canopus white gold.

The biggest change is the introduction of the manually-wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. This world renowned calibre has an improved power reserve of 50 hours and increased magnetic resistance, making this iteration of the Speedmaster Moonwatch the best yet.

For those keen on acquiring OMEGA’s Speedmaster Moonwatch, the price varies depending on the model. The steel case with fabric strap and steel case with steel strap will set you back $5,950 and $6,300 respectively, while the more expensive red gold and white gold models will cost you $34,800 and $45,300.
